The Da Vinci Code
by Dan Brown
Review of The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
The Da Vinci Code is a fascinating tale of a modern day search for the Holy Grail, the
legendary sacred vessel generally identified as the chalice of the Holy Eucharist or the dish of the Pascal Lamb. Panned by some in
the Roman Catholic Church for its negative characterization of the Opus Dei Society (a secret and controversial sect of the church) and
controversial characterization of the Holy Grail, this intricate story is nonetheless a fast-paced and thought-provoking
page-turner.

The kind of book that menopausal women who think The Secret is philosophy use as a
waste of time when they are sitting on airplanes with their fat sweaty husbands while their fat sweaty kids are watching some awful
in-flight movie or tapping repetitively on the heads of other passengers. Admittedly I didn't get very far but it only took a few chapters
for me to get suicidally depressed over the state of modern literature. It's written so banally, so perfunctorily that it should be
unreadable to anybody with any concept of what good writing is and why it should be done. There's no nourishment here, it's the literary
equivalent of Cheetos, except the Cheetos are shaped like Jesus. Popularity doth not a good book make; get this garbage off this
list.

There is absolutely no way this book belongs in the Top 100. Simply put, it just isn't
literature. A fun read? Perhaps. Good writing? Definitely not. An all time classic? I shudder to think others believe so.
